Former Interns: Where Are They Now?
Jane Beiles' passion towards photography has enabled her business to flourish and create a wonderful learning experience for all of her New Canaan High School interns. Her lively personality, love for her job, and sense of humor make a comfortable, yet dynamic work environment. Jane creates an unforgettable internship experience that encourages hard work combined with amazing experiences. From working on photo shoots with talented interior designers and clients like the New York Times to creating social media content, interns get the full experience of running a successful photography business. Each of the 13 interns looks back on their time spent with Jane with gratitude and take pieces of their experiences with them as they move onto the next stages of their life.
Sam Tesluk
Since participating in the internship in 2012, Sam has attended the Rhode Island School of Design and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in industrial design. Shortly after, she became an assistant designer to a luxury handbag company. After six months, Sam decided to pursue a different career path working in San Francisco as a user experience designer for a tech firm but ultimately ended back on the East Coast taking a graphic design class at Pratt Institute. Sam is currently living in Milan, studying at Politecnico di Milano for her masters in strategic design
Abbie Stone
Since graduating from Bucknell in 2017, Abbie moved to Los Angeles. Abbie works in marketing for Beautycounter, a cosmetic business that makes cleaner and safer cosmetics with non-toxic ingredients. She currently works at an interior design firm in LA, Georgia Tapert Howe Design where she wears a lot of hats: Junior Designer, Design Assistant, and Project Manager.
Lydia Melland
Lydia Melland graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. With an interest in history, Lydia has worked in the archives of the school, as well as the Tolkien Manuscript. She is currently in grad school at Northwestern University, working towards her master's in Mental Health Counseling. She is also an intern at Westport Counseling & Therapy in Westport, Connecticut. Lydia still practices photography to this day and hopes to include art therapy into her career.
Kayleigh Pace
After graduating New Canaan High School in 2015, Kayleigh attended Brooks Institute for photography. From there, Kayleigh went on a mission to Brazil through the Latter Day Saints Church for eighteen months. Kayleigh learned to speak Portuguese and had an amazing experience giving back to the community. In 2018, Kayleigh moved to London and went to a photography school to get her bachelors in photography, then to Paris to obtain her masters degree in fashion photography. She now lives in London, but works in New York, California, and Florida. Kayleigh plans to get married this summer in Spain and is considering moving back to California.
Gwen Davidson
Gwen attended Bowdoin College. Gwen spent time working as a social media editor and page designer on Bowdoin’s school newspaper, The Bowdoin Orient. Gwen is now working as a geospatial data scientist in Washington, DC. Her projects usually involve analyzing location-based data and visualizing the data in the form of maps and web interactives. She recently finished building out a web app for a wildfire risk model.
Hailey Wheeler
Hailey served on the Latter Day Saints Church mission for 18 months, in Norway. She spent the first six months in Bergen and the rest in Oslo. Hailey became fluent in Norwegian and really enjoyed her experience. She is getting ready to graduate in December from BYU's Business school with a degree in Experience Design and Management. This summer she is interning as an innovation product manager at Snap Finance as well as working as an assistant to a wedding planner. She also recently adopted two cats, Bill Murray and Theodore.
Sammy Hoey
Sammy is a senior at New Canaan High School and will be attending Roanoke College in the fall. Currently, she is interning at Nurenu, a brand marketing company. Sammy looks forward to beginning college and plans to work at Swirl, a frozen yogurt store in New Canaan this summer. Additionally, Sammy plans to visit Rhode Island and Nantucket.
Abigail Deery
In May 2021, Abagail graduated from Colgate University as an Economics major and Sociology minor and is currently a Senior Research Analyst at Ipsos, a global market research company. She is in a rotational analyst development program, GIADP, and is working and living in NYC. Although Abigail was an intern through the Senior Internship Program (SIP) through New Canaan High School, she was able to continue working for Jane afterwards.
Annalee Greenspon
Annalee attended Dickinson College. Additionally, Annalee participated in Dog House, a club that trains service dogs, while there. Besides getting to train puppies, Annalee enjoyed participating because of how rewarding it is to see dogs that she trained getting paired with someone in need. Annalee currently does video investment in New York City for the advertising company Spark Foundry. Video investment is in the realm of media buying, so if you’ve ever wondered how that Oreo ad got on your TV, Annalee helped put it there.
Avery Salomon
Avery has just completed her freshman year at Miami University as a marketing major and has had several accomplishments this year. First, Avery and her business school classmates were some of the few finalists in a competition and were chosen to present in front of thousands of corporate executives. Additionally, Avery joined the Women in Business and Alpha Phi sorority and has become a photographer for the campus fashion magazine, UP. Avery is using the work ethic and inspiration she gained from her experience with Jane to excel at Miami University while applying her knowledge of photography towards something that she loves.
Cali Brannan, Emma Barker, Caroline Addeo
Cali Brannan, Emma Barker, and Caroline Addeo are Jane's current interns. Highlights of their internship have been accompanying Jane on photo shoots for the New York Times, getting to see a magnificent Richard Meier home, and interacting with all kinds of animals from dogs, to baby chicks, to goats. Cali will be attending UC Santa Barbara in the fall, Emma will be going to Penn State, and Caroline will be attending George Washington University. All three have enjoyed their internship experience with Jane and see her not only as a testament to the success of a female-run business but a role model to inspire them as they move onto college and the workforce.
